Happy Holidays from Delphic Sage!

Yesterday, you may have received an e-card from Delphic Sage in your inbox wishing you and your family a Happy Holiday.

In the spirit of giving this holiday seasion, Delphic Sage participated in the Adopt-A-Family program through the Greater Phila Cares organization. Delphic Sage was appointed a single mom who had been recently unemployed and her two children in need of holiday gifts. Greater Phila Cares receives requests from smaller organizations throughout the greater Philadelphia area that need help during the holiday season. The family Delphic Sage "adopted" came from Bebashi Transition to Hope,  a full-service HIV/AIDS case management agency with a special interest in serving low-income people of color with HIV disease. After weeks of collecting gifts, and a gift wrapping party, it came time to deliver the gifts to Bebashi. We were excited to learn that this single mother was recently hired after receiving job training from Bebashi - the best Holiday gift of all!

Delphic Sage Group Outing: Fall 2008

The place: Arnolds Family Fun Center. Yeah, sounds like a little kid place right? well it definitely is. But they have some pretty fun things to do there AND they have some sweet go-carts! We were anxious to get out there and burn some rubber (and literally, there was rubber flying around on the track as we were zipping around). If you go when its not busy (during the week) you pretty much get free reign of the track and I think they will let at least 10-12 cars on the track at a time. The run time is about 15 minutes which is a good amount of time and if you buy the standard 20 points, it gets you 2 runs and access to the buffet! Fun times! took me back to the old days of pizza parties at the roller skating rink. We had a blast! Check the pics...

Seasonal Gems!

The fall season is upon us and as year round cyclist I'm begining to appreciate the change in seasons more and more. Though October may yield shorter days and chiller nights the sunsets on the ride home are getting better and better. Its hard to pay attention to path ahead when the best stuff is over your shoulder,  across Schuylkill rowers and behind the Piles of trees that hide our constantly backed up and beloved i76.

These are some candid shots I snapped on the ride home yesterday that prove that riding your bike to work everyday is well worth the effort.

Google has done it again.

Just in time for "Joe Six Pack" to enjoy the Presidential debates, Google Labs has released Mail Goggles. Mail Goggles, unlike beer googles, prevents you from doing stupid things.

So how does it work?

  1. You consume a fair amount of alcohol.
  2. You convince yourself that your boss is a jerk, or maybe that some significant other who screwed you over is indeed "the one" after all.
  3. You write an email to this person telling them how you really feel.
  4. You click send.
  5. Mail Goggles pops up and asks you 5 questions of 3rd grade math with a 60 second time limit.
  6. You fail to answer the questions, so the message does not get sent. Therfore, you avoid making an ass out of yourself.

Society Benefits

  • Less people getting fired would lead to a reduction in the unemployment rate.
  • Fewer bad relationships getting back together would lessen the number of divorces down the line.
  • A decline in restraining order applications would free up local court resources.
  • A reduction in the number of emails sent will free up much needed bandwidth for Celebrity Gossip and Miracle Diet advertisements.

My Ideas for Google Labs

  • Reply to All Confirmation - There's nothing like sending a snide comment to the whole company.
  • Mail Goggles Browser Plugin for SSL Pages - Prevent yourself from buying John Voigt's car on Ebay .
  • Sarcasm detection: puts any sarcastic comments that may be interpreted literally in italics.

My Personal Tipping PointLife In the Cloud Is Good

Over the last several years, I've been transitioning both my personal and professional life into the online world. I guess I wouldn't say it happened all of a sudden. I've been aware of it in the back of my mind for some time. But I've certainly passed the tipping point.

That came when Delphic Sage transitioned our infrastructure onto Google. We did it for several reasons - we're a mixed Mac/PC shop, wanted a better spam filter for email, establish a common platform for calendaring, greater collaboration through Wiki, etc. - but the bottom line is we're an Interactive Agency. It seemed silly that we didn't push the envelope of cloud living. For me personally though, trading Microsoft Outlook for a series of online tools pushed me over the edge.
