Philadelphia SEO Firms - A Short List

So, we were doing some research lately looking at Philadelphia SEO firms (or more broadly put, firms that offer SEO). And it got us to thinking that organizations that are searching for Philadelphia SEO firms might find this work of value as well. So, here it is.

Who Made the List

  • Firms that offer SEO services stand alone or part of larger suite of services.
  • SEO or some form of search marketing must have been specifically mentioned on the firm web site (or we personally knew it was offered).
  • A physical office and/or headquarters in greater Philadelphia metro specifically listed on the firm's web site.
  • We tried to keep it to firms versus individuals or very small shops, but frankly for some it was tough to tell and we gave them the benefit of the doubt.

Top 5 Web Marketing Metrics

I hate to beat a dead horse - but I am still surprised at how many companies do not measure their online marketing efforts. This post is aimed at the basics of ROI measurement for web and online marketing campaigns.

Working in the online marketing space targeting small - mid size firms, I hear alot of marketing depts saying we have a website b/c it's important for our customers to access our information, but then they don't really know how their customers are using their website.

  • Where are your customers going?
  • Which pages are most valuable?
  • How are users interacting with your site (sequence, contact forms, purchase behavior, etc.)?
  • How many people can't find the information they are looking for and quickly bail out of the site?

I'm sure most of our readers are aware Google and other search engines have long had trouble indexing websites produced in Adobe Flash. As Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has taken on increasing importance in the last several years as well as momentum around W3C Web Standards, all Flash sites (or yikes - two sites Flash and HTML) have become somewhat of a rarity. Thankfully, the Flash intros everyone loves to skip have by and large died off as well.

Well, Google formally announced on Monday (see below) that its has enhanced its search algorithm to enable indexing of Flash content. So, the question is will this drive a renaissance in Flash-based web design? I think the answer is a dubious - yes and no.

The Business Value of Web Redesign

In this day and age, a website is integral to a company's success and just about everyone already has some type of web presence. More often than not, we are redesigning existing sites for our clients. Of course we get work from companies that are rebranding, merging, or funded startups where we do get a clean slate, but more than half our work is a web redesign. So we have experience in making the improvement a sensible, empowering and motivating leap forward. In some cases this involves dynamic functionality as well as the visual change but for this post we will be focusing more on the visual (the dynamic nature of a site is almost always unique, but when we discuss the look, we can apply that philosophy across any project).

Much like the approach to a design from scratch, we focus our efforts on the following pieces of the puzzle to recognize business value form web redesign projects. The difference is that we will take into consideration improvements in these specific areas:

  • Visual Aesthetic
  • Usability - Navigation & Site Architecture
  • Functionality
  • Content

Google AdSense Changes

Speculation of Google's recent drop in click-through-rates causing a decrease in the organization's stock may have been premature. According to TechCrunch, "Google has made a small change to AdSense that may make a big difference in cutting out errant clicks and even your AdSense revenue. They've redefined the clickable region for Google AdSense from the entire boxed region, to just the text link." The change made by Google resulted in a decrease in clicks, helping to eliminate accidental click-throughs.

While the overall click-through-rate may have decreased, company's relying on Google statistics may be given a more accurate view of ad performance with Google's changes. Ultimately, the decline in CTR is likely due to the change made by Google to deter errant clicks.
